Mormon Tabernacle Choir
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir consists of 360 volunteer members. It is one of the oldest and largest choirs in the world. It is based in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Brigham Young
Second prophet and president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is most famous for leading the latter-day saints from Illinois to the Salt Lake valley.
Joseph Smith Jr.
Founder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was born in Sharon, Vermont on December 23, 1805. He grew up in Manchester, New York. His wife was Emma. He wanted to know which church was right and prayed in a grove of trees near his house when he was 14. God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ appeared and told him not to join any of the churches. In 1821 an angel appeared to him and told him of some golden plates hidden in nearby hill. He found the plates and translated them into English. The book was published as The Book of Mormon. He was persecuted his entire life, but never denied the things he said he saw. There were other witnesses that confirm they saw the gold plates. Joseph received many revelations during the years and they are recorded in a book called The Doctrine and Covenants. He was martyred in Carthage, Illinois in June of 1844.
Celestial Kingdom
Latter-day saints believe there are three degrees of glory. The highest degree, the Celestial Kingdom, is heaven. You must be married in the temple to enter the Celestial Kingdom.
Word of Wisdom
Latter-day saints adhere to the word of wisdom, a law of health, which teaches to abstain from alcohol, coffee, tea, tobacco and other harmful substances.
Gordon B. Hinckley
Holy Temple
It is considered to be the House of the Lord. It is where latter-day saints are married for time and all eternity. Personal standards of worthiness must be met to enter the temple. Only white clothing is worn within the temple.
The Book of Mormon
The Book of Mormon is a record containing God's dealings with the ancient inhabitants of the Americas and contains, as does the Bible, the fulness of the everlasting gospel. It was translated by Joseph Smith from golden plates. It was published to the world in the year 1830. The crowning event recorded in the Book of Mormon is the appearance of the Lord Jesus Christ to the people in America, soon after his resurrection and ascension into heaven.
