Baptism

Children are baptized by immersion when eight years old by someone who holds the priesthood. They are interviewed by the bishop before baptism. There must be two witnesses during the baptism. Baptisms usually take place in a font at stake centers.

First Vision

Joseph Smith had the First Vision in a grove of trees near Palmyra, New York in the spring of 1820. He saw God the Father and his son Jesus Christ. He was told to join none of the churches.

General Conference

General Conference takes place twice a year at the conference center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Sessions are held on Saturday and Sunday. Sessions feature talks from from General Authorities and music from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. General Conference used to take place in the Tabernacle.

Boyd K. Packer

Boyd K. Packer was born September 10, 1924. He is the president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has been an apostle since 1970. He was born in Brigham City, Utah. He has a master's degree from Utah State University. He wrote the book The Holy Temple. He served as a president of the New England Mission.

Brigham City Utah Temple

The announcement of the Brigham City Utah Temple was made by Thomas S. Monson during general conference on October 3, 2009. It will be the 14th temple in Utah. Other temples announced during that session include the Concepción Chile Temple, Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple, Fortaleza Brazil Temple and the Sapporo Japan Temple.
